Simon Fraser University Athletics announced that Steve Frost is returning to SFU to lead the department’s communications team.

Frost brings 20 years of experience leading communications for sports organizations and major consumer brands and comes to SFU from McDonald’s Canada, where he managed internal communications for Western Canada.

Prior to that, Frost was responsible for global communications for EA Sports, where he helped pioneer content marketing strategies that built a community of over 20 million followers on Facebook and 1 million on Twitter for the world’s most popular videogame franchise, FIFA soccer.

He (Frost) previously served as communications director for the Vancouver Canucks and the Vancouver Grizzlies, after beginning his career as a journalist with The Province newspaper.grizzlies hat

“I’m thrilled to have Steve joining Simon Fraser Athletics,” said Dr. Richards. “His experience and unique perspective will be a tremendous asset to our department and entire university. Steve has constantly demonstrated his passion for the Clan, whether serving on our Hall-of-Fame selection committees or as a fan watching our games. We’re fortunate to have Steve on board and we look forward to what he adds as we advance SFU Athletics.”

Frost worked as sports information director at SFU in the early 2000s when Clan teams competed in the NAIA and CIS. A Simon Fraser University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications.

Steve is married to former Clan basketball player Teena Frost (nee Bell), a recruiter in the university’s student services and reside in Port Coquitlam with their four children.

“With the university embarking on its 50th anniversary celebration next year the time is right for me to return home,” said Frost. “I am so excited and honoured to be able to promote our elite student-athletes and teams, to support our dedicated coaches, and to engage with our faithful alumni.”
