Delta Sports Hall of Fame

The 10th annual Delta Sports Hall of Fame is holding the annual Sports Champions and inductees is being held at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn and is sold out with over 150 seats purchased.

It all began in 2005 when the Delta Sports Hall of Fame set out to celebrate Delta Sport achievement, recognize excellence and honour past, present and future role models in the community of Delta.

This year’s recipients are as follows:

Sport Champions Coach Dan Burgess 2013 SDSS Volleyball Teamhall of fame

Burgess has enjoyed a three year run of provincial championships as the head coach of his South Delta Sun Devils girl’s volleyball and has won in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Athlete Vanessa Kovacs Soccer

Kovacs was named Canadian Interuniversity Sport All-Canadian and was named to the CIS Championship All-Star Team winning MVP of the Nation Finals.

Athlete Mark Pearson Field Hockey

Anthony Farry the Head Coach of Canada’s National Field hockey team lists him as an experienced international player who demonstrates leadership within the program.

Professional Athlete James Paxton Baseball Seattle Mariners

He made his first major league appearance on Sept. 7, 2013, facing the Tampa Bay Rays. He earned the win as the Mariners took a 6-2 decision.

Volunteer George Windsor Hockeyhall of fame 3

He has worked for over three decades giving his time and dedication to the youth of Delta that all started with hopes of being a Coach for his Son’s team. He designed an on-line hockey referee assigning form, which was state of the art.

Master Athlete Cheryl Watson -Dragon Boat

This year’s Sport Champion Master Athlete of the Year was diagnosed in 1995 and again in 2009 with breast cancer.

Team 2013 South Delta Senior Secondary AAAA Girls Volleyball Team

This team won two Provincial titles and the 2013 South Delta Sun Devils captured their second consecutive AAAA Girls Volleyball Championship culminating finishing with a 41-15 record.

Inductees Builder Martin Ray Medicine

Athletes at all levels develop and achieve excellence in their sports with the assistance and guidance of sports medicine doctors like Dr. Ray. He has been called “an unsung builder, supporter, facilitator, healer and leader in Delta sports for over two decades.”

Builder Tim Saunders

Squash -Saunders, a resident of Tsawwassen, has been affiliated with the Bayside Squash Club since 1980, but today the Bayside Squash Club is much more than an Athletic Club.

Athlete Michelle Bogaard Flemons Tennis

At the age of 12, her coach, Gerry Macken , believed she had the potential to advance as far as she wished, mainly due to her fighter instinct and mental toughness. It is a distinct reality that she is one of the best women’s tennis players ever produced in B.C.

Athlete Jamie Buis Football jamie buis

His Canadian Football League career with the Lions ran from 1983 through 1989 and during that time he played in over 100 CFL regular season games.

He won three (3) CFL West Division Championships and played in two (2) Grey Cup Championship games and won the Grey Cup in 1985.

Coach Gary Trepanier Football

His coaching record with Delta Minor Football Club speaks volumes gathering fifty-nine (59) wins, seven (7) losses, two (2) (consecutive) undefeated seasons and four (4) consecutive provincial championships.

The 1995 North Delta Huskies was an exceptional squad of young players and even after 20 years following their success the1995 Huskies are still considered one of the finest BC High School Football Teams to ever take the field.

Pioneer Cliff White  Slow-Pitch – Fastball

He managed to get both athletic recognition and admiration for the North Delta Softball Association throughout BC.

His greatest gift will be the lasting impact that he gifted to his players as well as the community of North Delta.
