It’s not unusual for us to think of strange and weird sports that some might try, while others just give you the strangest look and wonder what we were thinking.
One such games are called The Redneck Games are held in East Dublin, Georgia – not Ireland as you might think given the name of the town.
They are held annually (yearly for the Rednecks) and were started by Elbow (real name) who is a local person in the town and who was also the GM of radio station WQZY-FM96 “Y96”.
The bid to host the 1996 Olympic Games was won by Atlanta and some even thought it would be organized by a group of rednecks.
While strange, it was first created to help children’s needs and there were around 5000 people turn out for the first ever Redneck Summer Games.
Ironically this is slightly over the twice the population of East Dublin itself.
Of course with a name like the Redneck Games, they did indeed receive national coverage from shows such as Good Morning America, Life, Maxim, MTV Road Rules/Real World Challenge, The Tonight Show, ABC, NBC, CBS, BBC, and FOX.
Obviously strange sports sell and the advertisers bought into this “hog wild”.
In 2001, Drew Scott of Wild Country 96.5 “borrowed” the games to set up a fundraising event for the Franklin County NY Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Each year, these games have increased in size of the event, crowds and monies raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
2010, marked the 9th year of the “Annual Redneck Games” in Malone New York and the one to sell it and entertain everyone was non-other than Cledus T. Judd.
For whatever reason the games were cancelled in 2013, but might make a come-back in future years, but this all depends on interest.
Well keep you posted in case you want to sign up!!!
