Vernon’s Cassandra Brown (6-foot-2 guard/forward) defeated all female competitors in the NCAA’s three-point shooting contest , then went on to test her skills against the Men in the three point event.
She went up against the Men’s Champion Kevin Pangos of \Gonzaga and to the surprise of many – she defeated him as well.
Pangos went first and was successful with 20 shots but Brown managed to nail 21 shots in the one minute contest to win and at one point Brown made nine threes in a row in one stretch.
Brown just completed her career with the University of Portland and won the Women’s three-point contest in the State Farm College Slam that took place first and was held at Butler’s Hinkle Field house.
Brown played four seasons for the Pilots and was the team’s leading scorer as both a Junior and Senior.
This season she averaged 17.8 points and 6.4 rebounds and shot 44.4% from three-point range and finished her career with 180 three-pointers, ranking No. 3 in the history of the school.
Her parents (Robb and Bonny) were unable to watch it on TV (blackout) so drove five hours to Washington to catch the action at a sports bar.
Can you imagine the excitement at the bar??
Congrats – another British Columbia Athlete making us proud!!!!
