Raonic Captures 8th ATP Title

One might think it’s the normal match-up that takes place during most events, but this one had different results, especially if you’re a Raonic supporter.

Australia hosts the annual Brisbane International and each year they attract top players to the event.

The first week of the 2016 season saw Milos Raonic defeat Roger Federer 6-4, 6-4 in the final capturing his eighth (8th) career ATP World Tour title in less than 90 minutes.

With six double faults and a 56% first serve percentage, it clearly wasn’t Raonic’s best day for serving, but he still stayed balanced winning the points that counted when they should.

The only break point he faced all match he managed to saved managing to capitalize on break chances on any of Federer’s serves taking a 5-4 lead in the first set and a 4-3 lead in the second set.

Following the match he stated “The win does great things and for me this signifies within the team how concrete and how good and the work we’re doing is.”

He continued “at the same time, with the difficulties I’ve had in the last year, it’s a good way to show the guys I will face going into Melbourne that I’ve got myself back together and I can play some good tennis again.”

Congrats to the winner

Different from the event last year as it was the Swiss Legend Roger Federer who defeated Raonic for the Brisbane Championship title.

At the young age of 25 Raonic is currently ranked world No. 14, has now won at least one trophy in each of the past six seasons, with his (Raonic) record in all final events to an even 8-8.

As for Raonic he stated “considering how the last nine months for me have been this is the cherry on top of all of that and now I want to focus on my tennis and I want to do better and I stepped up and was able to show that to myself and everybody else today and that’s what I‘m most proud of.”
