Team BC Defends Title

Team BC represented Canada at the 2012 North Pacific Junior Girls’ Team Matches held in Blaine Washington and came home a winner.
Thereby defending their title against Team USA and winning just south of the 49th parallel.
The event was held at the Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club Coming off a strong day one performance that saw Canada lead the competition by seven points, the group of 12 junior girls’, aged 13-17, continued to fire on all cylinders taking the competition by a 22 to 14 overall point total. The eight point margin of victory and overall score are identical to the score put up by the 2011 champions from Canada.
With the sun shining but the wind acting as a heavy influence on shot selection, the girls from British Columbia did not let the title slip coming down the stretch.
Strong performances were had in the day two team alternate shot format by Valentina Trillo (Port Moody), Brooklyn Kraakman (Deroche) and Naomi Ko (Victoria), Alix Kong (West Vancouver).
Both teams collected all possible points from their Team USA competitors, on route to the victory.
When asked prior to the matches started, Keanna Mason of Port Moody and member of the 2011 championship Canadian team, was optimistic and excited.
Following the victory, Mason gave some insight into the strategy that allowed the team to succeed and back up her prediction of a team title.  Team rookie Janet Zhang of Richmond, expressed her excitement over the win in her first team-style competition. “I really enjoyed playing here.
This was my first team competition with the B.C. girls and it was a lot of fun being able to win as part of this team.”Representing Canada were Chloe Wong and Rachel Shi of Vancouver, Naomi Ko of Victoria, Alix Kong of West Vancouver, Annie Songeun Lee of Surrey, Richmond resident Janet Zhang, Madison Kapchinsky of Kelowna and Deroche resident Brooklyn Kraakman. Rounding out the team of 12 were Grace Chua of White Rock, Victoria’s Hayley Cruse, Maple Ridge’s Keanna Mason and Port Moody’s Valentina Trillo.
