Fifteen Member Canadian Team

Laurent Dubreuil of Lévis, QC, will be back in action and lead the 15-member Canadian team along with Denny Morrison of Fort St. John at the sixth and final World Cup of the season, Feb. 7-8 in Heerenveen, Netherlands.

The Heerenveen World Cup will feature sprint distances of 500m and 1,000m.

Canadian men’s teammates will also compete against each other in Heerenveen looking for one available spot at the World Single Distance Championships which will be held next week.

The fastest time in the men’s 1,000m in Heerenveen will lock up a third spot at the distance at these championships also to be held in Heerenveen, Feb. 13-15.

The successful skater in that race will join previously qualified Morrison and Vincent de Haitre of Cumberland, Ont., in the 1,000m at the world championships.

Morrison, de Haître and Kali Christ of Regina, SK, will be the only Canadian skaters to take part in both Winter World Cups, including the one held last week in Hamar, Norway.

Laurent Dubreuil will return to the international competition after the Christmas break looking to add to the four medals he won during the first four World Cups of the season.

He also posted the fastest 500m time (34.50 seconds) in the world this season at the recent Canadian Single Distance Championships in Calgary.

It will mark the season World Cup debut of Edmonton’s Jamie Gregg, who has seven World Cup medals in the 500m so far in his career, including a victory in the 500m event in Berlin on March 9, 2012.

It also marks the World Cup long track debut of his sister Jessica Gregg, who switch from short track this season and qualified at the Canadian Single Distance Championships in Calgary in early January.

Making their 2014-15 World Cup debuts are Alex Boisvert-Lacroix of Sherbrooke, Que., and Alexandre St-Jean of Quebec City.
