Cycling Leads To Fit Canadians

It’s the time of the year where everyone -well mostly everyone either thinks about getting in shape or want to get better conditioned, especially with summer around the corner.

How you might ask – well cycling comes to mind and can be fun for the Family and its affordable to the pocket book, which is what Parents like to hear.

UCI LondonOnce you get good at cycling you never know where your travels will take you or what type of success you might achieve.

The 2016 Track World Championships are happening in London England and Canada’s Steph Roorda won Canada’s second medal after she attacked the field in the last 500 metres of the Women’s Scratch Race taking a Bronze Medal.

Canada currently sits fifth in the standings with two (2) Bronze medals after two full days of competition.

Roorda launched what would prove to be the decisive attack with less then two laps to go in the 40 lap race, catching a breakaway group with half a lap left and still leading with 100 metres to go.

Great Britain’s Laura Trott came from behind with Kirsten Wild of the Netherlands and both managed to catch Roorda on the final straight coming away with Gold and Silver, while Roorda got third place.

It was her (Roorda) first individual medal at a world championships, and she mentioned “It feels great and I think it’s a testament to the work we do on the Team Pursuit.”

The Women’s Team Pursuit squad comprised of Allison Beveridge, Jasmin Glaesser, Kirsti Lay and Georgia Simmerling, finished second with a time of 4:20.664, but the US were the top qualifiers.

Canada now faces New Zealand in the next round with the winner advancing to the Gold medal final. UCI Event

Canada also had two entrants in the Women’s Keirin – Kate O’Brien and Monique Sullivan and both raced aggressively in the opening rounds, but never made it past the Repechage round.
