Coaches/Players/Program Who’s To Blame?

So we play sport for the love of the game and regardless of your chosen sport, it’s not always about winning, but rather teaching and making better citizens.

Well some just don’t understand this, nor will they and take the recent case where two young (immature) football players deliberately charged a game official knocking him to the ground.

The video went wild and was an embarrassment for the San Antonio school where the players played for until recently and are currently attending Northside ISD’s alternative high school while they await their district disciplinary hearing.

Michael MorenoNow’s it’s reported that the two Texas high school football players (Michael Moreno and Victor Rojas)  are saying that the Coach told them to strike a referee during a game because of (possible) missed calls.

Michael Moreno said during an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America “While on the sideline he pulled me and another player, and he told us, and I quote, ‘You need to hit him as he needs to pay the price for everything that’s going on in the game,’”Good Morning America

It was reported that “There was racial slurs being thrown at players from this referee, unjustified calls and a lot was going on and his [the coach’s] emotions got mixed into and he told us to do what he did.”

Moreno mentioned that he heard from the coach directly, while Victor Rojas said another player stated what the coach’s order’s were.

The suspended John Jay High players didn’t name the coach, but it’s reported that Assistant Coach Mack Breed has been suspended by the Northside school district pending an investigation.

The John Jay High (now suspended) players didn’t name the coach, but it’s reported that Assistant Coach Mack Breed has been suspended by the Northside School district pending an investigation.

Video from the game against Marble Falls earlier this month shows Rojas blindsiding referee Robert Watts, and Moreno diving on top of him.

Watts has denied using any racial slurs, but the players from the San Antonio school both said they heard the slurs directly.

“He told one of my Hispanic friends, ‘Speak English — this is America,’” Rojas said. “I heard that and he called an African-American the n-word.”

Moreno says he regrets hitting Watts and wants to apologize.

Moreno told the media “When it was happening, I realized the gravity of the situation. This is all happening. I couldn’t fully go through with it, so at the end I pulled up a lot.”

He continued “It was hard for me to actually go through with it and to this day, it is one of my biggest regrets and has been affecting my life, greatly.”

The two players have been kicked off the football team for the rest of the season and were suspended for three days – really three day’s??

So now the players are showing remorse and we have to ask why it’s taken this long to come out and make any statement.

It’s interesting to know that suspended Assistant Coach has the following posted on the web about his career.

In the 2007 season he played two games for Missouri and recorded three tackles and all three stops came against Kansas State and he made his first career appearance against Colorado.

In the 2006 SEASON he did not see action as he continued to learn the safety position and get himself back to 100% health.

Practiced, but was not full strength during a majority of the spring as he was recovering from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left knee during the 2005 season.

Entered fall camp listed No. 3 on the depth at the strong safety position after practicing at the free safety spot during spring ball.

In the 2005 season he did not see action on the year after moving to safety prior to the season, from quarterback … Missed much of the season due to a knee injury and the 2004 SEASON it was his Redshirt season.

In HIGH SCHOOL he was listed as a dangerous dual-threat quarterback prospect who joined San Antonio John Jay High School teammate Aaron Saunders at Mizzou .

Has played with Saunders on the same team since they were six years old and was listed among top-10 prospects in the San Antonio area.

Has 4.3 speed in the 40-yard dash and listed as an excellent athlete who was an all-state, all-district and all-area centerfielder in baseball.

In his personal life he is the son of Son of Steve & Felecia Breed … Studying nutrition and fitness at Mizzou … Chose MU over Texas A&M, Colorado, Baylor and Utah, among others.

If this is the way these two players (term used loosely) conduct themselves on the field, can you imagine how they would act if they were a Dad and had a son or daughter who spilt a glass of milk??

Not the best citizens in the world to set an example, so now they go on TV to show – REMORSE??

Speaking for one Coach I know – Ray Moon from South Delta Sun Devils this is not how or what he would any player!!
