All Canadian Final

Tennis stars come from various areas of the country and it takes several individuals to help them advance to a higher level and those who help deserve “ton’s” of credit.

pospisilPlaying in front of mostly American fans Canada’s two tennis stars are emerging as world class super stars who are looking for a long and extended career.

Both have previously played at the Vancouver Open with Vasek Pospisil winning in 2013 defeating Daniel Evans 6-0, -6 and 7-5 while Milos Raonic played the Van Open in 2010 where he lost in the first round Robert Kendrick.

While the Odlum Brown Vancouver Open continues to grow, several “name” players have the luxury to play at such a prestigious event that set up base at Hollyburn in 2002.

It is reported that Raonic has one of the strongest serves in the pro tennis tour and possibly in part that in 2012 he served more aces per match and won a higher percentage of service games than any other player on the circuit.

Pospisil while still young is growing into a world class player but did miss the 2013 Australian Open due to mononucleosis but following a full recovery went on to contributed to Canada’s Davis Cup success by winning the doubles match against Italy with Daniel Nestor.

The tennis world in Canada is pleased with the performance of both players who are only two who help put Canada on the world stage, but Pospisil is just not on the same level as Raonic – at this time.

This not only builds up tennis in Canada, but also builds up a strong rivalry between tennis friends in the tennis world.

It was interesting to watch the match on Sportsnet and none of the announcers made mention that both have played in the Odlum Brown Open at Hollyburn.

The Citi Open was extremely well run and all the staff did an exceptional job with scheduling to name one, but the volunteer hours with over 1500 sleepless nights.

Many were surprised with the weather as well as the Washington Tennis organization who have improved the tennis in the area over a year and a half ago.

Loved to see the Canadian flags in the back ground when the presentation took place and Pospisil was professional in thanking everyone who also mentioned “he is looking forward to coming back next year.”

Raonic made a point of thanking everyone from the fan’s to the ball boy’s and girls and also the Canadian fans who travelled to watch the match. He also stated he is looking forward to playing in Toronto in the upcoming week ahead.hollyburn club

This is the start of putting Tennis Canada on the map to success and for a sport that is played year round in BC, let’s keep the serve between the lines.

The 2015 Odlum Brown Van Open promises to be more exciting than previous years – if that is possible!!
