Weather Cancelled Races

Published on

Well…unfortunately that was a wrap on our World Championships.

It seems like almost every regatta can be summed up by one phrase “It’s never like this here”.

True to form, Denmark was no exception.

We had  excellent preparation and had been training for the expected lighter air, however when the regatta rolled around a low pressure system came booming in from the Atlantic, bringing wind into the 30’s for a week straight.

Unfortunately because of the weather they had to cancel many of the days and we ended up only getting 3 races in Finals.

While our starts and decision making was great we had a few critical errors at the very worst moments which cost us big time in the regatta.

We capsized in 2 races while being in the top 5 and in one race our spinnaker halyard got snagged in our rigging, we had to stop to repair it only to watch the entire fleet sail by.

The result was not what we were looking for but we are not discouraged, we had some really great learning lessons and training days leading into the Worlds and we are looking forward to carrying that into the Olympic Test Event in Rio de Janeiro which is just a few short weeks away!

Although we missed out on the country selection for the Olympics in Denmark, we have another chance in January.

Stepping away from the Nacra a bit we are both representing Canada at the Pan Am Games.

Nikola in the RS:X windsurfer and Luke in the Sunfish.

After 3 days of racing Nikola is sitting in 6th and Luke sitting in the Gold Medal spot! They have 1 more day of racing before the Medal Races start :).

Time to kick it in high gear!
