The Vancouver Giants announce that their top two selections for the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft will both be representing Team Alberta at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.  

Zack Ostapchuk, a forward from St. Albert as well as Drew Sim (Tees, Alberta) Goaltender Drew Sim (Tees, AB) were named to Alberta’s team roster.

Ostapchuk was selected by the Giants (12th overall) in the recent draft after posting 24 goals and 21 assists for 45 points in 30 games with the Northern Alberta Bantam Prep program.

In 21 games this season he registered nine (9) Goals and seven (7) Assists for 16 points along with 26 penalty minutes also playing for five (5) pre-season games with the Giants earlier this season.

Sim was selected in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft in the third round (42nd overall) and in 16 regular season games with OHA (Edmonton Bantam Prep) last season, he ,managed a record of 13-0-1 with a GAA of 2.05 and a .916 SC% along with three shutouts.

He played in two pre-season games for the Giants and is 4-2 through seven appearances with the Delta Hockey Academy Midget Prep team.

Great work by Giants Goalie Coach Paul Fricker, who also had an impressive career and is beyond talented for this role.

Canadian soccer fans have voted James Pantemis’s athletic save against Japan during the Toulon Tournament June 3 as the 2018 Allstate Canadian National Teams Good Hands Award.

The save came in the 41st minute with Canada leading 1-0.

The Allstate Good Hands Award recognizes the single best top save by a Canadian National Team goalkeeper during international play as chosen by fans during the online voting.

Marcelo Regen, Vice-President Allstate Brand, Allstate Insurance Company of Canada mentioned “This past year has been one of tremendous growth for Canada’s National Teams on the international stage. Canada’s Men’s National Team had an undefeated season and the Women’s National Team qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.”

We are used to watching them compete at the Odlum Brown Tennis Championship each summer, now we are hearing that they are taking their talents to the ATP World Tour in Milan.

This marks the finish of an impressive and successful season for the stars of tomorrow giving them a chance to put their talents front and center in the tennis world.

The week showcased the 2017 Challenger Tournaments of the Year awards that shows numerous young stars taking huge steps and strides on the ATP Challenger Tour.

Taking center stage was the recognition for both the NeckarCup played in Heilbronn, Germany as well as Vancouver’s (West Vancouver) the Odlum Brown VanOpen recognised after standout editions of the events.

The Sparkassen Open in Braunschweig, Germany celebrated a fourth consecutive year, since the awards as the players were introduced.

The trio of world-class tournaments were given recognition for their passion, commitment and dedication to growing the game at the higher Challenger level.

The €127,000 event in Braunschweig enjoyed a 25th anniversary this year.

Seven returning players highlight the U SPORTS Men’s Hockey All-Stars roster named on Tuesday, set to face Hockey Canada’s World Junior Prospects in Victoria, B.C. from Dec. 12-14.

This will mark the fourth straight year Canada’s National Junior Team Prospects have faced off against the U SPORTS All-Stars, all of whom have CHL major junior experience. Since a U SPORTS national all-star team began participating in December 2015, the teams have split the last six contests.

The event will feature a three-game series against Team Canada’s World Junior Prospects vying for roster spots at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship being held in Vancouver and Victoria (Dec.26 – Jan.5) with games scheduled at The Q Centre, home of the BCHL Victoria Grizzlies Game dates as follows:

Wednesday, Dec. 12 – 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT
Thursday, Dec. 13 – 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT
Friday, Dec. 14 – 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT
