Team BC Names Athlete’s

It’s official and Boxing BC released a statement that six (6) athletes will be representing the Province and attending the 2019 Canada Winter Games being held in Red Deer.

Dave Brett Coach for Team BC mentioned “We are so excited about the 2019 Canada Winter Games. Not only has boxing been reinstated in the Games since 2011, but we also have a very strong team too.”

He continued “Boxing BC has worked hard over the past few years to scout and ready the athletes heading to the Games. The coaching staff have all worked closely together to build this strong team.”

It goes without saying that they have not only competed, but trained putting in numerous hours getting set for this prestigious event focusing on three (3) pillars of training which are quite simply strength, endurance and technique.  

Provincial coach, Bob Pegues, has set up a legacy within the province to not only build the provincial athletes but also to mentor the provincial coaches too.” said Brett.

All Coaching for not just boxing, but all sports working for Team BC as their coaches have worked under strict guidelines set in place by the Games.

“We are so excited about this opportunity to showcase boxing to all Canadians. We have worked hard to ready Team BC’s boxing athletes,” said Brett, “Now it is time to put the hard work into action. Look out Canada, Team BC is coming.”

Team BC boxing athletes:

Para Bisheh (56 kg) trains at the North Vancouver/Griffins Boxing Club and is listed an accomplished athlete, having been chosen at a recent North Van all-star at a Provincial competition.

Brayden Sims (60 kg) boxes at Fort St. John/Five Star Boxing Club and he began his boxing in 2016 and was trained in martial arts prior to taking up the sport of boxing.

His top achievements  to date include winning provincials championships two consecutive years managing to win the B.C. Golden Gloves Championship as well as competing in fighting at Nationals in 2018.

Jerome Leroyer (64 kg) boxes in Nanaimo at the Inner City Boxing and became involved in boxing a short three years ago.

He mentions that “one of his biggest accomplishments is a win at the Canada Winter Games test event in 2018 against an opponent that had defeated him two months before.”

Dylan Clark (69 kg) boxed in Cranbrook at the Cranbrook Boxing Club and is a three-time Provincial Champion mentioning “representing his province and city at the national championship has been his greatest accomplishment so far.”

Jonathan Hannah (75 kg) boxes at the Griffins Boxing Club in North Van and recently won Bronze at the 2018 National Championship as well as the 2018 Oregon Championship and recently grabbed Gold at the Canada Winter Games test event held in Medicine Hat.

Brayden Hellekson (81 kg) calls Nelson home and competes at the Nelson Boxing Club recently mentioning his greatest accomplishment so far is making Team BC.

It was his Father that helped him get involved in boxing three years ago mentioning that Jesse Pineiro (Coach) has so far had the biggest impact on him.
