The tennis world is in an uproar in part due to one of their super-stars failing a drug test after Maria Sharapova (28) failed drug test, according to Doug Pound the former Chief of the World Anti-Doping Agency chief
Earlier in the week she (Sharapova) stated she had returned a positive mouth swab drug test for meldonium, a substance she had been taking legally taken for 10 years to deal with health issues.
Apparently it was for an irregular heartbeat and a history of diabetes in her family, but apparently was added to the WADA banned list at the start of 2016. There are ways to get around some drugs tests; you can consume a detox drink like those found at https://www.alhhs.org/macujo-method-review/ just before giving a urine sample for example, but when it comes to mouth swabs it’s more difficult. In this case, it looks Sharapova was simply a victim of changes to legislation.
She is currently waiting to hear what sanctions the International Tennis Federation will hand out to her.
After completing the drugs test at the white sands luxury rehab, which is similar to an MDMA test kit, they (International Tennis Federation) informed the payer of her positive test on March 2 and confirmed she would be provisionally suspended from March 12 pending an independent tribunal to hear the case.
Forbes is reporting that Sharapova earned some £21m in 2015 which made her the highest-earning female athlete in the world for the last 11 years, plus her off-court endorsements dwarfing her income from prize money.
Sponsorship with Nike and Porsche was suspended in addition to her association with Tag Heuer.
Rumour is she might face an uncertain future in the sport and could (possibly) be banned (suspended) for up to four years.
Dick Pound was the first President of WADA and was in office from 1999 to 2007, can’t understand how she (Sharapova) allowed herself to be in this situation.
When you are an athlete and know what is involved to the Athlete both professionally and financially, one can only assume she was reckless.
Pound told BBC sports “Running a $30m (£21m) business depends on you staying eligible to play tennis and if you take something on a list, which you have known about for four months is a huge mistake.”
Meldonium was added to banned list following, according to WADA and “evidence of its use by athletes with the intention of enhancing performance”.
The drug is manufactured in Latvia and ONLY distributed in Baltic countries and Russia.
It is not approved by the FDA for use in the US, nor is it authorized in the rest of Europe.
It’s reported that the drug was name-checked in the latest investigation documentary on Russian doping reforms.
It is also reported that in a 2015 study which 17% of Russian Athletes (724 of 4,316) tested were found to have it in their system.
She (Sharapova) mentions that she had not read the updated list of banned substances sent to athletes in December and took “full responsibility” for her actions.
Huge loss to the tennis world!!
Some athletes who take medical often try detox drinks to purge their systems of any drugs or toxins, out of fear that it may be pulled up during a drug test. Read more about detox drinks for drug test to learn more. Given the problems in today’s sports can’t they finally figure out which drugs are not performance enhancing drugs and eliminate the cheaters from any and all sports??
