Lydia Ko Leads Canadian Women’s Open

When you think of it, you can start Golf at a young age, as long as you can hold a club and now-a-day’s they are smaller than the one’s your Grandfather used.

Lydia is a young aspiring 15 year-old who took up golf at an early age and never really looked back.

She reflects that of a “kid” and smiles and laughs at things that most Adults might frown at, but she loves life. She respects her Parents and is a native of South Korea and is only 14.

She misses hanging out with her friends, but knows that day will come when she can enjoy them. She mentioned that in currently in New Zealand they are in school and it is the third term, which she has missed most of.

When she returns she will have a test in 14 days and have to cram to keep her marks up, then focus on the 4th term.

She enjoys playing and at one recent tournament her Mother was her caddy, which was interesting as she spent more time listening to what she was told.

At one point there was a time where the Family (almost) moved to Canada as her Sister attended school in Toronto, but she was too small to keep up to date with her Sister and her travels.

The Family was thinking of moving to Canada, but at that time, New Zealand seemed the better fit for the Family.

She finished the third round -9 and is “short of” shocked by her current standing on the leader-board. She will spend time working on her putting, then relax and focus on the final round and see if she can maintain her lead.

She was asked “is there is any pressure of having players like Stacy Lewis and Na Yeon Choi behind her”?

She stated “a bit, because I know they’re all great and Stacy is ranked 2nd in the World so it can be a bit nerve-racking, but I am here for the experience and fun, and at present I am enjoying life and taking one day at a time”.

As most know a fifteen year old is not supposed to be on top of the leader board or leading in a National Championship.

She mentioned “yea a 15 year-old don’t normally lead and I am surprised, but I have been playing really good, so now I have to just concentrate on my game”.

I asked her “Everyone has someone behind the scenes that really helped them or got them started.

Who got you started playing golf”/She told me “it was my Aunt who gave her two clubs and I just went on from there.

Now all my Family is supporting me, all our relatives and people back home.

So yeah, they are helping me become a bigger and better player.

She has her Mother here and enjoys her quality with a Family member.

When all is said and done, this is a moment she will remember for a life-time!!
