Leaving On A Winning Note

Published on

Building a winning tradition and taking as far as you can say’s a lot about the integrity of a person, especially Team Canada Executive Director Steve Yzerman.

The day following the 2014 Gold Medal championship in Sochi he essentially leaves the post after leading Canada to back to back Gold Medal Championships dating back to 1948 and 1952.

He managed amidst many naysayers that the line-up was wrong and assembled one of the best defensive lineups ever put on the ice for any Championship Olympic games.

They shut the Americans out 1-0 in the semi-final advancing them to the Gold Final against Sweden, which they polished off in convincing fashion, by a 3-0 score.

He did assemble a great combination of offensive and defensive minded individuals together and even the players he picked for the 3rd and 4th lines did a great job when called upon.

The next possible assignment for the National team will be in 2018 in Pyeongchang South Korea for the Olympic games.

He was a success as Team Captain for the Red Wings and now a success for Team Canada.

He will be missed, but someone will step up to the plate and take over, probably following his plan.

It will be interesting to see who takes over? Your call Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux or Mark Messier?
