Henry Lee Leads Juvenile Boy’s/Janet Zhang Leads Girl’s

Round one action got underway at the British Columbia Juvenile Boys’ and Girls’ Championship hosted by Princeton Golf Club, seeing Coquitlam’s Henry Lee take a two-shot lead in the Boys’ division while Richmond’s Janet Zhang open for a one shot margin in the Girls’ division.

Lee, 14 and a member at Swan-e-Set Bay Resort and Country Club, fired a flawless four-under-par 68 (-4) which featured four birdies and fourteen pars to open up a two shot lead over Dewdney’s Jake Scarrow.

Scarrow (15) finished his first 18-holes of the 56-hole Championship with a two-under-par 70.

Sitting three-strokes back of Lee’s pace is a pair of players in Coquitlam’s Jun Kang (16) and Kaleb Gorbahn (15) of Smithers who both shot -1, 71’s.

Gorbahn could easily have had the best round of the day as he was sitting at five-under-par heading into his final two holes before finishing triple bogey, bogey to slip four strokes but still post an impressive under-par figure.

Defending champion Trevor Yu (15) of Vancouver, is still within grasp of defending his title as he sits four back in a tie for fifth with three others at even par, 72.

In the Girls’ division, Janet Zhang (15) of Quilchena G&CC, grasps a one stroke lead after posting an up-and-down round of even-par 73 that included five birdies and five bogeys.

Carding a similar round that featured a plethora of different scores, including an eagle on the par-5 ninth was Surrey’s Michelle Kim (15) who scored a one-over-par 74.

Sitting tied for third only two strokes back of Zhang’s pace are Maple Ridge’s Keanna Mason and Surrey’s Annie Lee. Mason, 15 and Lee, 16, both shot rounds of two-over-par 75, leaving themselves well within striking distance with 36-holes to go in the Championship.

Princeton Golf Club is playing as a par-73 5,643 yard course for the Girls’ Championship compared to a par-72 6,506 yard course for the Boys’ Championship.

Spectators are welcomed and encouraged to attend the Championship as entry is free-of-charge
