While sports seldom takes a day off for the Family to spend time together, it’s time like these in which we should give thanks for what we have.

Spending time together on a special day such as this for our American Cousin’s is a day to enjoy.

While it’s a  day off for many others have to work so others can enjoy their time with loved ones, but did you ever wonder how Thanksgiving came to be?

Now being a nationally celebrated holiday it’s held on the fourth Thursday in November and originally was known as a harvest festival.

It’s been celebrated in the US Nationally (on and off) after a proclamation by George Washington in 1789.

It has been celebrated as a federal holiday every year since 1863.

It was during the American Civil War that the US President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day.

It was meant for “Thanksgiving and Praise to our Father who dwelleth in the Heavens,” and stated to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November.

The “First Thanksgiving” was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in 1621 and the feast lasted a full three days.

Apparently this was accounted by Edward Winslow and was attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims.

The start of Thanksgiving in Canada Thanksgiving is traced to the French settlers who came to New France in the 17th century, to also celebrate their successful harvests.

Thanks to the Men and Women, law enforcement personnel and numerous others that help keep our Countries Safe.

Oh yea – now after the feast, we still watch sports – that never get’s old!!
