GOLD FOR GERRITS

Published on

Canada’s Travis Gerrits has won his first FIS Aerials World Cup event and did it in style in front  of 40,000 cheering Freestyle Skiing fans inside China’s Olympic Bird’s Nest Stadium.

Gerrits, from Milton, Ontario, beat out three strong Chinese competitors, and the rest of a strong international field, to not only win the competition but also secure the tour’s Yellow Jersey as the FIS Aerial World Cup leader.

With a picture perfect Back Double Full Full Full (a quadruple twisting, triple flip) as his Super Final jump, Gerrits scored 126.70 which proved impossible to beat.

“I am super stoked to have won today. I couldn’t have done it without the help and strategy of my coaches and my entire team. To do it in The Bird’s Nest was truly incredible. I am truly grateful for everyone’s support!”

Also competing for Canada was Jean-Christophe Andre of Montreal, Quebec who came 13th.

In Women’s action on Saturday, Laval, Quebec’s Sabrina Guerin came 24th.

The FIS
Freestyle World Cup season will resume after the Christmas break with Halfpipe and Mogul events at Canada Olympic Park inCalgary, AB January 3rd and 4th.
Thanks to Canadian Freestyle Ski Association for the info.
