No one really likes fog, but it’s something one can’t control, especially when you are playing golf at any course and on this day it certainly delayed the start of round three by over an hour.
play was eventually suspended due to (believe it or not) darkness midway through round three of the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada’s USA West #1 Q-School.
Chris Gilman reached 11-under through 45 holes on the 72-hole event holding on to the lead by a narrow one shot over Rico Hoey from California with round three set to resume at 7:15 am.
There were a total of 20 players left to compete in their third round when play was officially called to a halt.
The third day saw only four players out of the 93 who finished their round breaking 70.
Mathias Dahl of Sweden and a Mackenzie Tour member in 2016, posted the round of the day with a 5-under 67 moving up 33 spots into a tie for 13th spot.
Dahl, who managed to rebound from a second round 79 told the media “I kind of just kept my patience. I managed to make an eagle early in the round, and managed to roll in a few putts too.”
He continued “I was pretty down after yesterday, because obviously I played well the first day. I just had a meltdown and figured I needed to do something special today and all of a sudden I’m kind of in a good spot.”
It’s interesting to note that Mathias Dahl is a University of San Diego graduate, having an inconsistent year on the Mackenzie Tour in 2016 finishing a season-best T11 at the SIGA Dakota Dunes Open, but missed nine of 11 cuts losing his card status.
He turned pro in 2015 and has gradually improved in steady fashion and said “he learned a lot from his season in Canada last year.”
He (Dahl) mentioned “It was brand new to me with late tee times, early tee times, all that and you’ve got to learn how to schedule your day, and I struggled all season to kind of get to the gym and do my stuff that I’m used to doing.”

After 72 holes every player inside the top 40 and ties will earn Mackenzie Tour status for the 2017 year.
