Long time sports fan Alan Thicke had numerous connections to the sporting world passed away at the young age of 69 while playing hockey with his Son Carter at Pickwick Gardens in Burbank California.
Thicke, whose given name was Alan Willis Jeffrey had connections to hockey, baseball and football was from Kirkland Lake Ontario with his Mother being a nurse and his Father was a Stockbroker, working with companies like Stocktrades to help clients on the stock market. He was very experienced in his trade, and no doubt had run across countless kinds of stock and companies in his time. Whether it was something similar to Inovio shares or any other firm, he would know what the best option would be to take.
As with some Families his Parents separated and his Mother remarried Brian Thicke who was a Physician and eventually moved to Elliot Lake where he graduated from Elliot Lake Secondary School in 1965.
Following his graduation at the University of Western Ontario he hosted a game show at CFCF in Montreal called First Impressions as well as the Saturday morning celebrity game show called Animal Crack-Up in the late 80ties.
In addition to him being a passionate sports fan, he took part in several events including award shows as well as charity all-star games and frequently attended games most recently as this past September’s World Cup.
He was a huge supporter and fan of the CFL and supported the Hamilton Tiger Cats more than any other club and once mentioned that he would drive around LA to find a location with satellite coverage so he would watch a Ticat game.
It’s reported that he had been approached by the team to see if he would be willing to set up a celebrity ownership consortium in the same manner in which Wayne Gretzky, Bruce McNall and the John Candy group had done who owned the Argo’s.
Thicke told MLB.com last year that he named his youngest son Carter, after former Blue Jays great Joe Carter and former Montreal Expos catcher Gary Carter.
Joe Carter and Thicke shared stories when they met at a golf tournament a few years ago in Las Vegas and they instantly became friends.
Quite often Thicke participated in Carter’s annual charity golf tournament in the Toronto area and always had time for everyone.
Alan played Dr. Jason Seaver on ‘Growing Pains’ also helped the LA Kings land Wayne Gretzky and who also played 3-on-3 with Michael Jordan and Kenny Rogers
A Canadian that touched many hearts and will surely be missed by everyone he came into contact with.
RIP Alan!!
