Comox Fige Fighter Kyle Croxall Wins

Published on

Skating is more than a sport, somewhat like MMA. It clearly shows what is required to perfect the art of skating, balance along with a focus to win.

Comox BC Fire Fighter Kyle Croxall won the 2012 Red Bull Crashed Ice World Champions in Quebec City with more than 100,000 spectators looking on.

The race went the final distance and the 19-Wing Comox firefighter pulled it off.

He managed to protect the second place he needed when his brother Scott slipped, during the final stage of the last race to place behind the 2011 champion Arttu Pihlainen and in front of his rival.

It was the most spectacular Ice Cross Downhill World Championship in Red Bull Crashed Ice history.

Pihlainen looked as if he was headed for the title but Kyle Croxall (who was leading at the time) needed to finish second to guarantee him the win.

At this point he was behind his brother (Scott) in third place with not much time remaining.

Pihlainen broke away and suddenly Scott crashed into a wall after a tricky jump falling allowing Kyle to jump into second, giving Canada its first world championship.

Kyle Croxall, runner-up in 2010 and 2011, finished the year with 3000 points, just 40 ahead of Pihlainen (2960) and Scott Croxall finishing in third with 2,300 points.

It was the 6th (career) victory for Pihlainen who came to Canada in hopes of overtaking Croxall.

When asked if there was a team order to fall, he simply stated “certainly not”.
