Canada Cup Swim Meet

The 51st Mel Zajac Jr. International Canada Cup Swim Meet made a splash at the UBC Aquatic Centre and has drawn 52 teams of both Men and Women from the National team.
Including as young junior local for the National Swim team and in attendance is Canada’s Ryan Cochrane and Missy Franklin from the United States.
The Event runs May 22nd and comes to a close Sunday May 25 and for those interest the event is free to the public!
 The event is a sanctioned by Swim Canada drawing over 200 athletes from various areas of Canada, Oregon, California and of course various areas of BC.
The swimmers here are supported by their families cheering them on; but the true hero’s are the Coaches that train the athletes every day.
In conversation with one of the parents up to 6 hours a day is spent which includes keeping them focused on performance as well as see that they are ready for completion.
On  the opening night all preliminary sessions and heats focused on time trials to see who would the preliminary heats in all the fields.
Also in the competition was the 50 LC Meter Butterfly Backstroke Breaststroke and the men and women 800 and 1500 LC meter freestyle.
The completion resumed early Friday with the events of final of the women 50 butterfly and the men race whichbegan at 8:30 followed by the 50 butterfly swim off.
The following event was the 200 meter backstroke event the 100 breaststroke followed by a 15 minute break.
It resumed to be followed by the 400 IM and concluded with the 400 meter Freestyle relay, the 200 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 200 Freestyle and 400 IM.
