BC Special Olympic’s News

Published on

When we think of sport we seldom think of those involved with the Special Olympics and we have to ask – WHY?

To these Athletes they play as hard, if not harder than some and still continue to remember what sport is about, rather than shout and holler at the opposition.

Coaches never use profanity toward other individuals such as Coaches in other sports do, especially hockey? Why?

It’s all because they have a unique love for sport that most will never truly understand and it takes a special individual to not only play, but work to better these Athletes.

Recently (May 27) an event was held in Victoria on the lawn of the Legislative Buildings as they were transformed into a sport hub, during the noon hour as Special Olympics BC – Victoria Athletes played alongside MLAs in a series of bocce matches.

With the Special Olympics Canada 2014 Summer Games a little over a month away, MLAs, including Community, Sport and Cultural Development Minister Coralee Oakes, joined Special Olympics athletes to play a few games.

The Government of British Columbia is supporting the Special Olympics Canada 2014 Summer Games with $300,000 in funding.

I am told that this was a fun time for everyone and despite your political views, this was great to see and even better that it took place.

Thanks to the BC Special Olympics’ for the info!! http://www.specialolympics.bc.ca/
