Sport BC, in conjunction with KidSport BC, is pleased to announce that Tommy Europe has been selected as the recipient of the KidSport Community Champion Award, sponsored by Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers.

This year the 48th annual Athlete of the Year Awards Ceremony and Gala dinner will take place March 5th at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

This event recognizes BC’s best amateur athletes, coaches, and officials for outstanding performances in sport over the 2013 season.

The KidSport Community Champion Award is presented to an individual who has made a significant and meaningful contribution to KidSport over the past year.

“Tommy has been a selfless and generous supporter of KidSport for the past four years and his contributions have included filming public service announcements, the donation of boot camps to KidSport auctions, partial proceeds from boot camps held across the country, speaking appearances and participation at KidSport golf tournaments and corporate events.

Tommy always says yes to helping KidSport whenever he is asked and has become our “go to” Team KidSport ambassador!”, said KidSport BC Director Pete Quevillon.

He has played in the CFL for 11 years and was a two-time CFL all star, in addition to winning a Grey Cup with the BC Lions in 1994 and in 2010, he was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame.

Tommy has become a bestselling author, a television host, a sought after keynote speaker and a celebrated expert in the field of health and wellness.

Tommy recently has developed a comprehensive corporate wellness program that is fast becoming the benchmark for Canadian businesses.

Tommy’s passion for fitness and health extends to his love of KidSport and his belief that every child should have the chance to play.

His love of sport is infectious and has become a much anticipated part of the annual Ritchie Bros. Corporate KidSport Challenge.

His promotional video for the event is legendary and his active participation in the event has helped to raise over $500,000 for KidSport in the event’s four year lifespan.

Previous winners of this award, which recognizes significant and meaningful contributions to KidSport, include BC Lions placekicker Paul McCallum and Olympic skier Mike Janyk.
