We normally give promotion to various other sports, but what about the sport of Archery which is played in various areas of the lower mainland?
The World Cup of Archery began in 2006 and was organized by the World Archery Federation that has the archers compete in four different stages in four different countries.
The best or top eight of each category, from 2010 and four from the 2006-09 advance to one additional stage.
Ironically this was first introduced after a successful 2003 World Archery Championship in New York as well as the 2004 Summer Olympics held at Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens Greece.
I am hearing that the host cities for the 2018-19 event will be held in Salt Lake City, Berlin, Antalya and Shanghai and as of now the scheduling has yet to be confirmed.
Now we are hearing that Team India has managed to bag Silver and a Bronze medal in the compound section in the continuing second stage of the Archery World Cup Stage II.
India’s women compound team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Muskan Kirar and Divya Dhayal recovered after a poor or lackluster start losing to Chinese Taipei by three (3) points that forced them to settle Silver, which is better than no medal at all.
Later that evening saw the third seeded mixed pair of Abhisek Verma and Jyothi overtook the Belgian pair of Reginald Kools and Sarah Prieels by a score of 158-155 in a Bronze play-off that added a second medal to India’s count.
Using a recurve bow is a bow that curves forward at the ends, which straighten out under tension when the bow is drawn, thus the name.
This event saw the women’s team of Deepika Kumari, Promila Daimary and Ankita Bhagat in search of a Bronze medal, but that will follow later when they compete against Chinese Taipei’s Lei Chien-Ying, Peng Chia-Mao and Tan Ya Ting tomorrow.
The men’s recurve team continued its poor outing and exited in the first round.
Aiming to get a shot of good weather, this day it was rain that hammered the beach as Lin Ming-Ching, Chen Yi-Hsuan and Chen Li Ju completed in the second end.
The end result saw a tough loss for Team India as they failed to find the 10 ring for five out of six shots, putting the team five points behind trailing by a 117-112 margin..
