Whitecaps Advance To Final

The Whitecaps advanced to the Amway Canadian Club Championship final with a 3-1 win over Edmonton FC before 15,011 sweeping the two game series against their Provincial rivals winning the two game total goals.

The win allows them to square off against Toronto FC in the championship final.

Toronto advanced with a 2-0 win over the Montreal Impact marking their fifth straight trip to the Canadian CONCACAF Championship; which marks a rematch between the clubs from last season.

The game saw Edmonton control most of the scoreless first half against the Caps entering the game thereby pressing the Vancouver’s defence creating chances with the strikers and the midfield.

Early in the contest Matt Lam sent a shot wide of the near post in the 10th minute.

Edmonton FC could have been up in the match as strikers Lam, Yashmir Pinto and Michael Cox caused the Vancouver defence to tighten up in their own half of the field.

In the 25th minute as the midfield sent the wingers away on the flank Hassli sent his blast just over the crossbar.

Camilo made his himself presence known as he worked defenders in the penalty area which saw the Edmonton defence play strong.

The second half saw Edmonton open the scoring on a goal Yashir Pinto who got away from defender and sending it past Brad knighton in the 54th minute.

This gave them the lead in the game as the visitors took a 1-0 lead the goal cut the goals aggregate to 2-1 in the series .Sebastien Le Toux came off the bench in the 74th minute making his appearance count scoring a minute later tying the game at 1.

Davide Chiumiento drew an assist which was his first of three in the in the match. Le Toux added his second goal sending it past Edmonton keeper David Monslave putting the Caps up 2-1 in the 88th minute.

They managed to put the game away in 93rd minute (extra time for injury) as Darren Mattocks scored the decisive goal after a great run taking a Chiumiento pass to making the final 3-1 in Vancouver’s favour.

The victory see’s the Cap’s advance against to play Toronto FC in the final for the Amway Championship.

This all gets underway on home turf May 16th at BC Place. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
