Whitecaps Add Italian Goalkeeper

While they are waiting for the receipt of the International Transfer Certificate as well as a Canadian work permit and visa the Whitecaps have added depth to the back end as well as size.

Italian goalkeeper Paolo Tornaghi (25) was a free agent previously playing in the Eastern Conference with the Chicago Fire in the MLS having played nine regular season games.

He calls Garbagnate Milanese, Italy home and the 6’2″ keeper weighs 165 lbs and has a record for his nine games as 3W-4L-2D and started in all nine games he played.

Prior to joining the Fire in 2012 he was a member of the Italian Club FC Internazionale Milano, while being on loan from Inter Milan from 2008-2011.

He also played with Serie C side Como, where he appeared in six (6) league matches and two Coppa Italia matches.

He started the first three matches of the 2012 season for the Fire and played in front of 58,912 fans at Olympic Stadium and saw that game end in a 1-1 draw and also had a 1-0 win over Philadelphia Union.

He also was in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match, plus as pair of international exhibitions against Aston Villa and Santos Laguna in his first season in MLS league play.
