Well prior to the athletes going to the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, they attended a ceremony at Delta City Hall hosted by the City of Delta and the http://deltasportcouncil.org/ to pay recognition for their achievements.
Sportswave was on hand to interview the Delta Athletes that were heading to compete representing Delta and thereby making us extremely proud of the success we have in the area.
One such athlete was Tavis Jamieson (18) who displayed his speciality in Judo and came home as one of Delta’s most decorated athlete’s at the 2015 Canada Winter Games held in Prince George.
Jamieson trains under Kane Morishita at the http://www.stevestonjudo.com/ and as he mentioned to us he has been involved in Judo for nine (9) years.
He has competed in three B.C. Winter Games (2006, 2008 and 2010) and in 2014 he finished his overall season placing third at the U.S. Open Nationals as well as fifth at the Canadian Junior Nationals.
The judo expert managed to come home with a Silver (men’s up-to-100 kg individual event) and a Bronze in the overall team competition.
Upon his road to the Silver he had to win preliminary rounds over Tyrell Stringer of Saskatchewan’s and Maxime Emond who one of the farthest competitors traveling from New Brunswick.
Travis defeated Manitoba’s Martin Russo in the semi-finals, then moved on to face Ontario’s Kirill Sozin for the Gold Medal event.
Overall in the team event, BC managed to edge Manitoba allowing them to earn Bronze and Team BC finished third Tavis Jamieson Quebec and Ontario.
The Canada Games also calculate flag points to track the overall team performance not just medal counts.
Team BC had 270 points also placing the hosts third behind trailing Quebec (141) and Ontario (111).
