Hidden in a small park in Vancouver is South Vancouver Little League where they continue to put out winners both on and off the diamond.

The provincial championship event was staged at North Vancouver’s Chris Zuehlke Park, and saw the top players in this age division in the Province.

Teams (little league) in the province include
District 5 (Host) Mt. Seymour (North Vancouver)
District 1 Little Mountain (Vancouver)
District 3 Coquitlam
District 5 West Vancouver
District 6 South Vancouver
District 7 Layritz (Victoria)
District 8 Trail.

The 12-player South Vancouver team is Coached by Brian Perry and Co-Coaches Jonathan Mackenzie and Ric Domingo. Sunday’s final, SVLL clinched the winning banner for the small Association which had them play cross-town rival Coquitlam.

They more than doubled the score winning 13-7 in what was best described as a “huge success” for everyone taking part.

This is the first time a SVLL team has captured the provincial title at any age level, since the league’s inception.

This stunning achievement for South Vancouver as well as the team was well supported by many family members from all teams who came to cheer on all the players.

Head Coach Brian Perry stated “We are very proud of our team as they worked hard and this was a great reward for their efforts.

I hope that people will notice that our small league has talented players capable of big results. “President for the league Graham Randall stated “Kudos to the twelve amazing kids who worked together for more than a month to earn to this championship, which has traditionally been dominated by leagues with more than 400, and sometimes five, six or 700 players. “We have 240 and this win shines a spotlight on us and is a huge stepping stone in the development of our league.”

It should be known that the South Vancouver Little League is a 100% volunteer-driven league, established in 1956.

The 56-year-old league is run with a grass roots approach and offers a hub for the south Vancouver and south Burnaby area families who love the game of baseball and value the benefits it offers the community’s children in regards to good sportsmanship, athletic abilities, honesty, courage and respect.

The league has about 240 players participating from families of varied backgrounds, and always welcomes new players and families.

The SVLL area includes the South Slope of Vancouver and South Burnaby, which ranges in the boundaries from East 41st Avenue / Kingsway, south to the Fraser River, and from Prince Edward St., east to Royal Oak Avenue in Burnaby.

Registration for the 2013 season is on now. To learn more information on the South Vancouver Little League see www.svll.ca, or contact league president Graham Randall at 604-671-0462.
