Season Opener For Bellies

Published on

It’s great to start the season off the way it’s projected by ownership, but for some it’s just not in the cards which is disappointing.
Growth of the league is imperative to the success of the sport, especially the young up and coming minor players that want to wear the logo on the sweater at the Junior level of the game.
In staying with tradition the New Westminster Junior A Salmonbellies won their season opener the Langley Event Centre by a score of 8-2 over the (current) winless Thunder.
They were paced by Jeremy Bosher, Mitch Stokes and Connor Robinson who each a two goal effort, while “tender” Michael Flintkoff made 21 saves for the “Bellies”.
The teams were tied 1-1 after 20 minutes scoring the Bellies was Kyle Pauwels and for the Thunder Derick Rouse shots were 18-8 for the visitors after one.
The second saw New Westminster double the lead scoring three times on goals by Mitch Stokes (a pair) and a single from Connor Robinson, making it a 4-1.
Steve Meyervich was outstanding through two periods making 41 saves on 45 shots fired at him, so hopes are bright for his future in the game.
The final period saw New West continue their dominating performance scoring four, with Quinn Mackay Jeremy Bosher each with a pair and Connor Robinson (second of the night) taking the lead.
Shots in the game were 65-23 for the Bellies as Thunder goalkeeper Steve Meyervich made 57 saves for Langley while Michael Flintoff finished with 21 for the Bellies.
