Rugby 7’s Returns To Vancouver

Prior to being announced some were wondering if the Rugby 7’s would return to Vancouver that would again attract numbers that no other sport can manage.

In the past we have seen numbers in excess of 69,000 over a three day period and all indications are that when announced those numbers will continue to take centre stage.

One has to ask why this sport is so popular or has become the one sport that everyone patiently waits for each season.

Promotion has a lot to do with the success, but going beyond that one has to say it’s clearly the team that everyone patiently waits to see – the All-Blacks!

Rugby is a sport that not everyone can play and in conversation with many they say that overall is the continuous action along with the atmosphere in the building.

Costumes galore and as one mentioned to me “it’s like Halloween comes early” and truth be known that’s not as far fetched as it sounds.

Rugby 7’s has stops starting in January in New Zealand, Sydney, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Hong Kong, Singapore, France and lastly London.

Sevens is played on the traditional lands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

The event in Vancouver runs from March 3rd-5th and again is being held at the only place in Vancouver that can host an event of this magnitude – BC Place.

Rugby 7’s or Canada Sevens will run over a three-day span and will feature the top players in both Women’s and Men’s teams which is a part of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

This is by far a much faster paced game than regular rugby and much shorter with only seven players per side which only attracts top athletes in various countries around the globe.

It’s not for the faint of heart and regardless of where you sit inside the stadium you can hear some of the “bone crushing” hits even in the press box.

With the event hosting both Men’s and Women’s you should know that.the standings in 2022 in the Women’s side saw Australia 7’s with 80 points followed by France 7’s and Fiji 7’s (60 points)  with Canada in 7th with 40 points.

The Men’s side was interesting with Australia 7’s (126 points), South Africa 7’s (124), Fiji (122 points) with Canada sitting in 14th with34 points.

The 2023 version of Rugby 7’s is set to  be the most competitive event to hit Vancouver meaning that to win you have to push yourself to be a success.

Win or lose every team that shows up is a winner for supplying the most competitive level of the sport for sport fans to take in the game action.

Grab your tickets early and don’t miss an minute of game action!!
