Players Added To Roster

While hockey is some months away we are hearing that both the Moose Jaw Warriors and the Everett Silvertips have added players to Canada’s roster for the National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp scheduled to take place from July 27th to 31th. 

Warriors D-man Daemon Hunt and Gage Goncalves  of the Silvertips will be a welcome addition to the squad joining 15 other WHL players.

The virtual camp will be run by the following six (6) team personnel.

Alan Millar (Moose Jaw Warriors / Tottenham, Ont.) Management Group working with Michael Dyck (Vancouver Giants / Lethbridge, Alta.), Mitch Love (Saskatoon Blades / Quesnel, B.C.), along with Assistant Coaches Jason LaBarbera (Calgary Hitmen / Burnaby, B.C.), Brian Cheeseman (Edmonton Oil Kings / Mount Pearl, N.L.). 

Dr. Barry Wiens (Red Deer Rebels / Red Deer, Alta.) will perform as the goaltending coach, team therapist and team physician, respectively.

Hunt call’s Brandon home and played in 28 games with the Warriors recording 15 assists and  played for Team Canada Black at the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. 

In addition he represented Canada at the 2018 IIHF U-18 World Championship winning a Silver medal at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. 

Hunt is eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft, ranked 25th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

Locally, Mission BC’s Gage Goncalves played in 60 games with Everett this season, notching 33 goals and 38 assists for 71 points. 

He also played in the BCHL for the Chilliwack Chiefs (2017-2018) grabbing 1 goal and 1 assist in 4 games giving him enough to move up to play in the WHL

Gage is also eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft and is ranked 80th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting, making this his first appearance with the Program of Excellence. 

In addition to the above, locally we are represented by 6’1” Vancouver Giant D-man Bowen Byram who played in 50 games collecting 14 goals and 38 assists along with 76 PIM”s in the shortened season.

Tentatively, the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship returns to Canadian ice this December and is scheduled to be played in both Edmonton. and Red Deer. 

Should the event happen the games will be played at Rogers Place and also at Westerner Park Centrium in Red Deer.

Locally we want to congratulate Vancouver Giants play by play Dan O’Connor on his recent marriage to Laura Laverdure over this past weekend.
