Some might say he’s too old and it’s time for the Lions to make a trade for him, but at the young age of 44, he’s still got lot’s of kick in his game.
The BC Lions have agreed to a contract extension with Vancouver kicker Paul McCallum who converted 28 of 33 field goal attempts in 2013 season for the Lions.
McCallum is entering his 22nd CFL season, to which the last nine have been in a Lions uniform.
McCallum has also suited up for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Ottawa Rough Riders during his 21 seasons in the CFL.
He is expected to handle field goal kicking during the 2014 season while the Lions are making plans to bring in another kicker for punting and kickoff duties.
In addition the Lions have signed free agent Ricky Schmitt who comes to the Lions following a Championship season with Saskatchewan.
He is ranked as one of the top CFL’s top three kickers in punting yardage as well as kickoff yards in 2013.
He calls Virginia Beach home in the off season and stands 6′ and weight’s in at 213 lbs and also attended Shepherd College and will be a welcome addition for the Lions this season.
Winnipeg:
The Blue Bombers announced they have signed recently-acquired ten year veteran and defensive back Korey Banks to a contract extension through 2015.
Banks has spent the last eight (8) seasons with BC Lions and has been a CFL All-Star five times, a division all-star eight times and has grabbed 37 interceptions during his career that also include 27 as an eight-year starter with the Lions.
Last season, Banks tallied 46 tackles, three special teams tackles, one sack, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
Banks has played in 163 regular season games and ten playoff games and is a two-time Grey Cup winner as well.
It is rumored that he wanted more money and the Bombers were willing to pay him for his services.
Edward Retires:
Terrence Edwards told the stated from his home in Atlanta “My body has been starting to tell me that my career has been coming to an end.”.
This approach was taken so he could put to rest the suggestion that he was being pushed out after previous thoughts that he might return for a season or two and said he was keeping another promise, to retire from football in a Bomber uniform.
“It was my decision, it wasn’t a decision that was made by the club forcing me to retire. . I just thought it was the best time for me right now to move on from playing professional football.”
He will or should go down as one the Bomber great players that has ever played for them and clearly his numbers back that up.
He is ranked fourth on the all-time team list for receiving yards at 7,200, managed five 1,000-yard-plus seasons and 24 100-yard-plus games being only second to Milt Stegall among Bombers receivers.
He was a league all-star twice and a divisional all-star three times..
