The Delta Islanders and the Salmonbellies battled to a 8-8 overtime draw at the Ladner Leisure Centre in BC Junior A Lacrosse as they hold out hopes for a second place finish in the regular season standings.

This being the final week where they trail the Bellies by just three points with two games left. They improved their regular season record to 12-5-2 for 26 points three back of New Westmsinster (14-4-1 2).

Last night’s games the teams Islanders led 2-0 after the opening period on goals by Taylor Northway and Mitch Parker as they went to the intermission.

The second saw the Islanders continue to hold the lead outscoring the Bellies 3-2.

Delta goals came off the sticks of McLaughlin and Parker (second of the night) and New West replied with goals from Bryne with a pair and Goodwin.

They still trailed 4-3 heading into the final period of the contest against the Islanders. In the final saw Nett score for the Islanders and the Bellies replied with goals from Goodwin and Harding sending the game to OT overtime.

The OT settled nothing overtime nothing seeing the game end in 8-8 draw.

Next game for New Westminster is against the Adanacs July 5th and they close out the season against the Burnaby Lakers on the 8th.

Both games are on the road. the Islanders have a home and away games against the Nanaimo on Saturday and Sunday to conclude the regular season.
