Great Cardio Workout

With the weather being somewhat spring-like and the temperature being close to 16 degrees in Sochi, there was no reason that you can’t ride a bike and that is exactly what the Finish team did.

Some are saying that the bus system doesn’t work all that well, so Olli Jokinen and his teammates decided that riding bikes to a hockey game before would be a good idea.

He told reporters following the 8-4 win over Austria “I was probably 15, when I was playing back in my hometown and my Parents didn’t have a car so I would ride a bicycle every time but obviously when it was minus-20 or minus-25 you took the bus.”

The weather in Sochi is getting to be resort temperatures this time of the year and professional or not, you’re never to old to ride a bike, this time it was from the athletes’ village to their opening game at the Olympic tournament.

That resulted in a long line of blue bicycles lined up outside the team’s dressing room at the Bolshoy Ice Dome, which was apparently quite the site.

I am hearing that all of the six venues beside the athletes village and it’s remarkably easy to get around at the Games and apparently the trip from Finland’s accommodations to the arena is about a seven minute bike ride.

Jokinen told the media “It’s been probably the best setup out of all the Olympics I’ve been at,” he added. “Everything’s close. It definitely doesn’t feel like you’re in Russia.”

As well as the freedom the bike offers, the Finish team don’t mind the warm-up that it provides everyone.

I hear that the Finish team are riding the bikes everywhere they go because their rooms are located such a long way from the dining hall.

Boston netminder Tuukka Rask estimates that the players would be walking about 10 kilometres a day if not for their adopted method of transportation.

I hear that this is not out of the “norm” for him as he likes to bike from his apartment to TD Garden in Boston, depending on the weather.

Rask told the media “I live so close to downtown and Boston’s a great city to bike in.”

If you think about it, what a great way to get some exercise, besides playing hockey.
