Eagles In Tough Against Express

The Eagles take their one game winning streak to Coquitlam in hopes of continuing their winning ways stealing a game for the newcomers recently added to the roster.

With the BCHL Bauer Showcase over for  another season the Eagles made two roster changes to the line-up looking at grabbing additional points heading into Friday’s match-up against Prince George.

The recent additions to the Eagles nest sees Holden Katzalay and Liam Ryan make the transition to the roster, while the two released were Matteo Pecchia and Michael  McCosh, but to be fair it doesn’t mean they won’t be back with the “Big” team in the next while.

The Eagles got the start they were looking for at least in the shot out shooting the  Express at the 6 minute mark by a tally of 8-2 testing Matthews with several quality shots, some of which were labeled, but turned aside.

Coquitlam got a “gift” with the first goal coming off a misplay off the stick of Davidson as he was attempting to clear the puck from the right corner only to have it roll off his stick to Sanda who gave the Express the early 1-0 lead at 5:06 of the opening period.

It proved frustrating for the Eagles who were now facing an uphill battle and battle is what it was as the Express were continued to drive to the net managing to get two more prior to the end of the first.

Despite the fact that the Eagles were trailing by a 3-0 margin, it was the Eagles who dominated in the shot department hammering 19 at Matthews, while 15 shots were shared by both Davidson and Bailey.

The second was a reversal as the Express sent 17 at Bailey, while the Eagles were only able to manage 12 at Matthews many of which were targeted for the scoreboard, but this night they were turned aside forcing the Eagles to focus on a strong third period.

Line juggling can work magic, but on this night it seemed that nothing worked right for the Eagles as they allowed the Express to send 17 shots at Bailey, with two turning on the red light, while they were restricted to a mere 5 at Matthews before the final buzzer.

Line combinations were tried, but try as they might this night belonged to the Express as the Eagles look forward to a re-match with the Express October 3rd a short week away back in Coquitlam.

The Eagles will put this behind them and focus at the upcoming game Friday on home ice as they host the Prince George Spruce Kings on the night they will retire the jersey for Jaxon Joseph, former Surrey Eagles who tragically lost his life in the Humboldt crash.

Plan on arriving early as Greg and I will be on air at 6:30 pm and beginning at 6:45 pm there will be a pregame ceremony.
