Diving Is For Swimming – Not Soccer!!

Other than the scandal with FIFA and the corruption from individuals that have a hidden agenda to “get rich overnight”, it’s all about the acting that makes one wonder why we watch it?

Take in a soccer match, regardless of the team or city; it’s like watching an All-Star Wrestling event.

True they get paid more only due to TV Revenue, but the acting is extremely similar and you would better spend your time watching “real sports”.

The “topic” of the day in sports today is that of a concussion and what if anything can be done to fix or resolve thisFlopping concern simply won’t be fixed overnight.

We hear about head shots in football, elbows to the head in hockey, but nothing regarding the idea of sports looking for a resolve to this issue.

While this issue won’t be resolved overnight, it’s a subject that has to be addressed by several sports, including soccer.

One such way to solve this is to enforce all players and officials to wear properly fitted helmets, to which a chin strap is securely fastened.

Regardless of this, let’s have a look at what Sportswave feel’s is wrong with Soccer!

First, we all understand what tradition is and how some ‘old school” fans think the game should evolve, but it’s gone beyond being traditional.

It’s a business and attracting television revenue is essential to the success and growth of the game in North America, but does it have to be like this?

Given the salaries of the players, which has out-priced the working class Families, when the Whitecaps are able to draw over 27,000 to the game, it’s sad that the league has obviously asked the officials to “tighten-up” some fouls, this one was simply over-called by Match Referee Jair Marrufo.

A month into the season saw Mitias Laba get sent off with a Red Card for his sliding challenge that saw Galaxy’s Mike MaGee to “apparently” fall on the follow-through.

True officials in any sport should overcall the game/match so as to prevent injury, but when the players take liberty of his/her calls, it’s time for the league to step in.

Interesting the play that saw MaGee hobble off, saw him go to the side of the pitch and when play resumed, he was instantly healed and returned to play.

This is the leagues 15th Red Card this season and it’s no wonder why several will tell you, that soccer players should play hockey to learn how to take a hit.

At least the Whitecaps got a point in the outcome, but both Coaches were critical of the League’s Red Card epidemic and one has to ponder when will it change?

no diving allowedMy guess is it won’t!!!

While the league might have issues with this rule, it’s clear that the Whitecaps fans have embraced the team and that is reflected in the numbers drawing  71,278 attendance for three games for an overall game average of 23,759.
