Cap’s Host LA Galaxy

As Nancy Sinatra sang about “These Boots are made for walking” (February 26/66) or Joe South and the Believers sang in 1990 “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” they didn’t realize that they might be talking about the shoe-less Whitecaps.

Saturday see’s the Vancouver Whitecaps play host to the LA Galaxy and not only looking for a win, they are dealing with recently acquired new shoes for the guy’s.

Easter Monday saw the Whitecaps have 32 pairs of football boots stolen from the training facility at the University of British Columbia.

The missing boots are sizes nine and ten, so one can only imagine that it wasn’t a Lady expecting “high heels”!

Shoeless players include Pedro Morales, Jordan Harvey, Octavio Rivero, Erik Hurtado, and Sam Adekugbe.

It goes without saying that some naturally have custom designs as well as personalized engravings that hold a sentimental value.

whitecaps cleatsCarl Robinson is requesting in the form of a plea to the person(s) who have committed the theft, to be a “man” and turn them in and as he stated If anyone knows please give me a call. If you want boots, I’ll buy you boots, but please bring these special boots that these players wear back to me. Please.”

Somehow they will get new “boot’s” for the game vs the Galaxy always as hosting the Galaxy not only helps attendance, it boosts the excitement of the sport.

Some of the names for the Galaxy include Nigel de Jong, Jelle Van Damme, and Ashley Cole that take to the turf at the StubHub Centre, somewhat like when Wayne Gretzky did when he joined the Kings.

Last season saw the Whitecaps win both matches with Los Angeles with a 2 nil score April 4 (at home) and 1 nil on the road in Carson, California June 6.

Pa-Modou Kah Cap’s Centre-Back played in his season debut last weekend in a 1 nil win against Houston March 26th at BC Place.

He is familiar with seeing some of the “electric stars” of the league on various but some teammates are in for a treat as long as they don’t get “star-struck”.

It’s an honour to be on the same pitch as players like Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane, Ashley Cole, Giovani dos Santos, Jelle Van Damme, and Nigel de Jong.

Vancouver’s record this season is 2-0-2 managing to utilize the talent put together by Bobby Lenarduzzi and company hitting the back of the net for “W’s” on the sheet.

Pedro Morales leads the MLS with 4 goals all via penalty.

Jordan Harvey and Kendall Waston scored in Vancouver’s opening match of the season from set pieces. At this point, no goals have come from open play, but the panic button has not been hit and alarms are quiet.

Whether it’s stolen football boots, set piece goals, or hosting a power-house of talented players, the Whitecaps will be ready.

With the lower bowl opened up for one of three matches this year, it’s expected that all 27,000 fans will go home happy, hopefully seeing the Cap’s pull off another win.

The Whitecaps and Galaxy are sure to put on a fantastic match no matter any off the pitch noise.

Pa-Modou Kah is hoping that Carl Robinson has him play at some point in the match and we all know it won’t take him long to familiarize himself to the LA Galaxy style of play.

One that will miss the match in more way’s than one is Cap’s Striker Masato Kudo as he is out due to a suspension.

Oh yea – Elvis also did a version of Walk A Mile In My Shoes released in 1970
