Delta’s Malenstyn With Hitmen

Published on

The move from Delta to Calgary was probably the hardest part of the game, but once he got there, it was just like home.

He enjoyed his time in the lower mainland and felt that he did learn a lot and given the various coaches he had, he took everything in stride.

Calgary selected Malenstyn with their first pick, 18th overall, in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft this past May 2 and it is under a Standard WHL Player Agreement.

The announcement was made by Hitmen General Manager and Vice President of Business Operations Mike Moore.

Delta’s Malenstyn stands 6-0 and weigh’s (about) 160-pounds and recently finished his second season with the Okanagan Hockey Academy Bantam Red with an impressive record.

Serving as team captain, the 15-year-old recorded a team-leading 119 points, including a team-high 62 goals, along with 108 penalty minutes in 57 games played.

This summer, Malenstyn will join 41 bantam-aged players at the third annual Allstate All-Canadians Mentorship Camp from August 6-10 at Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.

“We are extremely proud and honoured to announce the introduction of Beck into the Hitmen family,” Moore commented.

“Throughout the past season our scouting staff identified Beck as an exceptional talent with terrific work ethic, leadership and character.   We look forward to working with Beck and his family as he begins his WHL and Calgary Hitmen career at training camp in August.”

“I am very honoured to have signed with the Calgary Hitmen, and I’m excited to take on the challenge of becoming an impact player in a very strong league,” Malenstyn said.

“The Hitmen are a first class organization that I am proud to be a part of.

I look forward to working with a great coaching and training staff, and playing in front of what I hear are really great fans.

He is hoping that he will be able to contribute in the near future, regardless if it’s this season or next and he is looking forward to the journey ahead of me.

He has nothing but kind words for his past Coaches and everyone that has helped him thus far in his career.

All the best to this young Delta player.
