Coaching Staff Returns

Being popular is one thing but when you come to think of it, how many individuals can go by simply one name and be known around the area.

Such is the case with “Wally” who runs the show for the BC Lions and as we have come to know, he’s like the Houdini of football in the area.

His magic spans various areas and all you have to do is ask any of his players; past or present and they will tell you how he spins his magic around the team, the City and the Province.

The BC Lions announced that they have worked out a new contract with Jeremiah Johnson (29) who was due to become a free agent on Feb. 14 and will now be with the Lions through at least 2018.

“Jeremiah gave us good production from the running back position last year and this is great news for our offence,” said GM and Head Coach Wally Buono.

We are now hearing that he will retain eight members of his coaching staff for the upcoming 2017 season, which include Mark Washington, Khari Jones and Marcello Simmons.

This comes as no surprise to many, but the surprise of the day is coming from Montreal with the Alouettes and their recent hire.

They announced the hire of Kavis Reed as the GM and Jacques Chapdelaine as the Head Coach for the Al’s moving forward.

Reed has worked in various capacities with the Al’s, including Special Teams Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach, for the past two seasons.

He does currently have no previous experience in the CFL as a GM, but did spent three seasons with Edmonton from 2011-13, managing to posting a question record of 22-32.

Chapdelaine took over for Jim Popp as the Alouettes head coach during the 2016 season and posted a record of 4-2 record.

During the six-game stretch with Montreal it should be noted that it was his first as a CFL head coach and prior to that he was the one in charge for Laval and Simon Fraser at the collegiate level.

It’s hard to say if both Reed and Chapdelaine were the first choice candidates for the Alouettes as it’s reported that University Of Montreal Head Coach Danny Maciocia turned down the President of Football Operations position with Montreal.

It’ll be an interesting year in Montreal!!
