Canadians Drop Second Straight

Published on

The Vancouver Canadians dropped a second straight game on the road Friday night as the Boise Hawks stubbornly erased a four-run deficit, winning 7-6 over the C’s in extra innings.

The loss, drops Vancouver back to .500 on the season (14-14) and is the first extra innings game played by the C’s in 2016.

Vancouver’s pitching struggled allowing 19 base runners (12 hits, 6 walks and an error) which helped Boise hang around despite the Canadians building up a 6-2 lead heading to the bottom of the 6th inning.

The C’s were 12-1 (.923) when leading after six innings this season, but after an RBI single from 1B Luis Castro that made it 6-3, the Hawks rallied for three runs in the bottom of the 7th to draw even at 6-6.

Neither team could find the knockout punch until the bottom of the 10th inning when 3B Wes Jones hit a one-out double, and shortly after pinch-runner Tyler Follis trotted out to second base, 2B Anthony Brito smacked a single to left field that helped Boise walk off with a second straight victory over the Canadians in a game that took three hours and twenty minutes to complete.

With the loss, Vancouver falls back to .500 (14-14) while Boise improves to 11-17 with the victory.

Vancouver will send Toronto Blue Jays 2016 1st Round Draft Pick RHP T.J. Zeuch (0-0, 0.00) to the mound in hopes of getting the Canadians elusive 15th win of the season.

The Canadians return to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Thursday, July 21st at 7:05pm as the Eugene Emeralds, affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, comes to Vancouver for a crucial five-game series.
