BC Summer Games At Hazelmere

The Surrey 2012 BC Summer Games are heading to Hazelmere Golf and Country Club on July 19-22, 2012.

Hosts of the golf portion of the Games, Hazelmere G&CC will have the pleasure of seeing 56 athletes, both male and female ages 12-16, walk their fairways in the hopes of capturing a gold medal.

Representing all eight zones in British Columbia, athletes will be competing in 36-hole stroke play competitions based on their gender, with the top three being honoured with gold, silver and bronze medals.

Athletes will also be competing in mixed zone team competitions over the course of play. All athletes are attending the Games by way of qualifying through various zone competitions.

Opening and Closing Ceremonies will take place at Holland Park for all 2,600 athletes participating in the Games.

Competition begins on Friday at 8:30am and will conclude on Saturday afternoon.

The BC Summer and Winter Games are two of the largest multi-sport Games in B.C. and in Canada, bringing together young developing athletes from every region of the province.

While competition is its backbone, at its heart are the spirit of competition, camaraderie and friendship, teamwork, and the setting of goals for individual and community excellence.

Past Summer Games participants include Team Canada’s Christine Wong of Richmond who recently won the B.C.

Women’s Amateur and Port Coquitlam’s Anica Yoo who just past week captured the B.C. Junior Girls’ Championship, also a member of Team Canada.

Opened in 1962, Hazelmere G&CC has long been a staple of quality golf in the British Columbia.

Following a renovation in 2003 to its practice facility, Hazelmere G&CC has vaulted itself into a prized Lower Mainland gem that will be a worthy test for the Games athletes.
