Fun In The Sun In Delta!!

Delta offers various events each year with the most recent being the trade show held at Delta’s Sungod Arena which featured various companies who were offering a one on one chance to meet and talk with potential employees.

The event was lived streamed on SportswaveTV and can still be viewed that showcased various local community companies as well as others based in the lower mainland and one from Edmonton.

Delta’s Sungod opened in 1977 and has been the home for Junior A, Senior A hockey, Wrestling shows, concerts to name a few.

This was followed by the Delta Lacrosse Islanders and Pioneers host the annual Thomas Hayden Memorial Day Lacrosse event held at the Ladner Leisure Centre which saw  a packed house showing support in his memory.

Thomas sadly passed away in 2018 and since then his memory lives on in the community which rallied behind him and raised funds for the score clock in the new outdoor lacrosse box located behind the Leisure Centre.

As one might expect the clock is named after Thomas which is only named in his memory to a facility which can and is used year round, rain or shine!

The next event was and given the recent Ladner May Days held in the heart of Ladner we move to North Delta with the last Sunday each June hosting Family Day’s Parade which ends up at the North Delta Community Park.

Regardless of the sport you are involved in, the summer months seem to rejuvenate not just athletes but also families to bond together enjoying the outdoor sunshine.

Locally the City of Delta has various events planned which once again include the Boundary Bay Air Show July 22nd starting at noon.

You can access parking for a minimal price of $25.00 in addition to having two free parking options with one being at Paterson Park and the other at East Ladner Parking Lot on 88th Street.

The City has arranged shuttles which start at 9:45 am and are larger buses than the ones used last year and will  run roughly every 15 minutes, so please show patience with the drivers.

This year will feature the USAF Air Combat Command  A-10 Thunderbolt that always amazes the thousands of families each July.

Pending any late issues this year they have pilots such as Brad Wursten who displays the most impressive and amazing advanced aerobatic aircraft in the world today with his MX2.

Adding a Canadian flavor you will be amazed by Pete McLeod who is one if not the top Red Bull racers.

In addition to the  above pair they are joined by Vicky Benzing, Mike Tryggvason, Ross Granley and the Northern Stars team.

If you want to get involved in a more personal matter, free to volunteer and without the support of the volunteers the City would be hard pressed to put this impressive event on each July.
