The 2015 Canada Winter Games is looking for volunteers who are interested in managing and volunteering within official sport and non-sport venues during the two-week period of the 2015 Games.
Anyone who has currently signed up in the volunteer database for the 2015 Games is invited to attend, as are newly interested volunteers.
To get the word out, and educate the public about these critical roles, the 2015 Canada Winter Games has been putting on Games Services Managers and Venue Operations Team 101 sessions at CNC. There are two remaining:
Feb 3 – 6:30 pm, Room 1-306
Feb 5 – 6:30 pm, Room 1-723
The Venue Operations Team is made up of volunteer hosts from all of the functional areas like: sport, media relations, ceremonies, security, transportation, food services, IT and equipment, environmental services, VIP Hosting, etc.
The team members act as representatives for their service and manage the team at that venue (for example, a media services representative at the CN Centre) for the two weeks of the Games, ensuring that the venue has all of the things it needs to carry out media operations at CN Centre to standard.
“People who volunteer on a Venue Team become very close knit,” says Christine Nicholls, Manager, Volunteer Workforce. “They become like an operational family, welcoming guests into the venues, and ensuring that all of those specific services within the building are operating at their top potential.”
“It’s a unique role,” Nicholls explains, “because you get to work and manage your volunteer specialization (VIP hosting, athlete services, security, IT for example), while at the same time, being deployed to a specific venue where your favourite sport may be playing.”
Those interested are encouraged to come to a 101 session at CNC this week to ask questions and learn more.
You can RSVP to: [email protected], or just attend.
