TRIATHLON CANADA WELCOMES NEW CEO

sports administrator Tim Wilson has officially taken the helm at Triathlon Canada as the national sport organization’s Chief Executive Officer.

Wilson, who recently sold a successful marketing and customer service business before moving to Canada to head up Alberta Triathlon Association, has held committee memberships and leadership positions within the sport’s organizing bodies in his native Australia since the early 1990s, including as National Executive Director of Triathlon Australia.

He joins Triathlon Canada as the organization continues its rebuilding efforts following lackluster results at the London Olympic Summer Games. South African Libby Burrell was hired in September 2012 as Triathlon Canada’s High Performance Director.

“Tim encompasses all of the skills we believe the leader of our organization should strive to achieve,” said Luc Landriault, president, Triathlon Canada. “He is a proven performer working in a high-performance environment with athletes and coaches under the most intense pressure, where he has developed and successfully executed strategic plans designed to win medals. He will be a valuable addition to our team.”

Leveraging his mix of both national and provincial leadership experiences in the sport, Wilson’s goal is to develop new opportunities to stimulate growth in Canada, and drive a new agenda of achievement.

“Triathlon Canada is at a very exciting stage of development; we have a new high-performance and sport-development staff, some electrifying young talent emerging, strong grassroots growth, and a steady range of quality events,” said Wilson, noting the spotlight will shine on the country when the World Triathlon Series’ Grand Final is held in Edmonton this summer.

Wilson holds a Diploma of Recreation Management from the University of Technology Sydney, Australia; a Bachelor of Sport Administration from the University of Dalhousie, Halifax; and an MBA from the University of Canberra, ACT Australia.
