$10 Million For Teemu?

Published on

Watching Teemu Selanne play in the NHL was a treat and he was one of the harder working players that ever played the game at that level.

Reportedly he played his last game and now rumor has it that his old Finnish team Jokerit is offering him a one year deal worth – get this – $10 Million for the season.

The team, which will move from Finland’s top league over to the pro KHL (2014-15) this fall and they are interested in bringing him on board for the season.

Rumor has it that they are willing to pay him $10 million for the season, this is according to USanomat’s Juha Hiitela and if the 44-year-old forward doesn’t want the hassle of traveling, he can alternatively earn $5 million by playing exclusively in home games only.

Update  or Rumor-Ville:

Jokerit’s CEO has (apparently) denied that the team has made any such an offer as per the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti, but Juha Hiitela say’s his report is true and not planning on changing it.

Selanne started his pro (hockey) career with Jokerit prior to making the jump to North America and also played for Jokerit during the 1994-95 lockout of the NHL.

Based on Cap Geek’s estimates, if he took the $10 million contract it would mean that he will make more playing hockey in the 2014-15 campaign than he did for any one season during his NHL career.

His current personal best was his $9.5 million salary for 2001-02, but his cap hit last season was a $2 million.
