WIN IN SOUTH AFRICA
I have known Sarah for several years and one thing is certain, when she set’s her sights on something, she never quits until she has reached her goal.
Sarah Hunter calls Surrey home and managed to captured her second consecutive quad doubles title in South Africa over the weekend winning the ACSA SA Open, an ITF Super Series wheelchair tennis event in Johannesburg, alongside American partner David Wagner.
Hunter and Wagner together ousted Brits Antony Cotterill and Andrew Lapthorne 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(2) in a thrilling duel.
“I played appalling tennis in the second set but David was amazing at lifting me when I needed it,” Hunter said. “I was very tired and sore and it was very hot. Overall I am pleased with my results over the last two weeks here in South Africa.”
In singles, Hunter was eliminated in the semifinals by South African Lucas Sithole 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. It was her second consecutive loss to the No. 2-ranked Sithole.
“Overall it was a pretty good performance but disappointing to be so close,” she said. “I had opportunities to make it 6-5 and then 6-6 but didn’t use my head.”
Hunter, currently ranked world No. 6 in singles and No. 3 in doubles, matched her results from theACSA Gauteng Open last week,
Congratulations to Sarah on all her success, it’s just great to see her do so well.
