Whitecaps Draw Even With Charlotte FC

The long anticipated wait is finally over for the Vancouver Whitecaps as they enter into their 50th season of exciting Whitecaps Soccer.

The day prior to the home opener the club announced the signing of midfielder Jay Herdman which makes it the second time that he has signed short-term agreement with the first being last month with the clubs Concacaf Champions Cup Round One albeit as a sub.

Given the marketing and promotion they were playing in front of 29,624 fans which is the largest crowd in the 50 year history in a match that saw them play to a 1-1 draw against Charlotte FC.

To no surprise Charlotte started strong as the Caps started with 10 returning players with Damir Kreilach as a starter in the front three playing in his first start at BC Place.

The strong start saw Charlotte awarded a penalty kick in the 23rd minute that went to video review and was eventually overturned which proved to be more of a  motivational tool for the Caps.

They return home March 23 as they take on Real Salt Lake with the kick-off at 4:30 pm
