With the opening date fast approaching for the Giants playing at the “new home”, the Langley Events Centre it’s not a shock to many that trades might be coming in the near future.

Following the weekend two game sweep by the Royals over the Giants, they announced the traded of 1997-born defenceman Brennan Menell to the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Coming west see’s 1997-born blue-liner Darian Skeoch and a fourth round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.

General Manager Glen Hanlon stated “The Vancouver Giants are excited to add Darian’s size, defensive strength and physical play to our line-up and aside from his on ice contributions, Darian also brings leadership and a great attitude.”

Skeoch calls New Liskeard, Ontario home in the off-season and played 59 games for the Hurricanes in 2015/16, amassing 7 points and 106 penalty minutes.

The 19-year-old rearguard is set to attend Anaheim Ducks Rookie Camp which runs from September 15-21 in California.

Menell was initially signed by the G-Men prior to the 2014/15 campaign and over parts of two seasons in Vancouver he netted 9 goals and 65 assists in 126 games played.

The No. 4 ranked Trinity Western Spartans had an impressive trip to jenaya-robertson-sfuSaskatchewan pulling out a 1-0 victory over the Regina Cougars Sunday afternoon at the U of R Field..

Cycling News

Canadian riders Finnley Iles (Whistler, BC) and Magnus Manson (Vancouver, BC) dominated the Junior Men’s race at the Downhill World Championships in Val di Sole, Italy, on Sunday, with Iles winning the world title and Manson taking the silver medal.

For Iles, it completes a season as a first year Junior that has also seen him win three rounds of the World Cup and the overall World Cup title.

At the world championships, on an extremely technical course, Iles was the only rider to go under three minutes and 50 seconds, at 3:47.405, a time that would have placed him 14th among the Elite men.

His compatriot Magnus Manson took the silver medal, 3.796 seconds back, followed by France’s Gaetan Vige, at 4.610 seconds.

Henry Fitzgerald (Canada) was 29th.
